Future Undergraduate Housing

Complementing your scholarly pursuits with a quality living environment

Residence Halls

Serving more than 3,000 students, your three Residence Halls combine comfortable living with a sense of community that will make your housing experience a memorable one.  The Residence Halls are the recommended and preferred home for over 75% of UCR’s freshman class.

On-Campus housing is guaranteed for two years to all newly-admitted, single students who live in the Residence Halls for their entire first year and continue to meet all housing deadlines.

National studies have shown that resident students perform better academically, have more contact with faculty, and are generally happier with their college experience than those who live off-campus or commute.

Building Choices & Room Types

Other than the physical appearances of the buildings and rooms, there are no programmatic differences.  All residents receive the same benefits and services.  The real difference is in the people on a hall.  To receive the best program possible, residents need to participate in their living environment.

Take a look inside and see what each has to offer:

·          Aberdeen-Inverness

·          Lothian

·          Pentland Hills

Doubles

The most common living arrangements in the Residence Halls are double occupancy rooms.  Double rooms are same gender, except where noted in optional Special Interest areas.

Triples

There are a limited number of triple occupancy rooms available in the Residence Halls at a discounted rate.  The triple room discount is $150 per quarter at East Lothian, $300 per quarter at A-I, and $300 per quarter at Pentland Hills.  Triple rooms are same gender, except where noted in optional Special Interest areas.

Suites

This double-occupancy living arrangement is only available at Pentland Hills.  Suites cost an additional $300 per quarter.  Suites are same gender, except where noted in optional Special Interest areas.

Community

You will find that the word “dormitory” has been eliminated from our vocabulary here at UCR; the setting we offer is much more dynamic than merely a place to eat and sleep.  With opportunities to participate in over 200 planned academic, cultural, recreational, and social programs and activities, you will find a comforting community of your university peers ready to support you throughout your educational career.

Conveniences

Designed to save you the time of venturing off-campus for recreation, entertainment, necessities, or conducive study environments, the Residence Hall communities have facilities to make your life easier and enjoyable while you live here.  Beginning with study rooms and computer labs, our resources also include social lounges, television rooms with cable access, secure bike storage, game rooms, laundry facilities, music practice rooms, food vending machines, convenience stores, and plenty of recreational lawn space.  We also offer our residents mail delivery, emergency assistance, message services, equipment check-out (e.g. sports, cooking, and cleaning equipment), housekeeping, and dining services.

Roommates

During your Residence Hall contracting process, you will complete a Roommate Compatibility Questionnaire, designed to assist us in matching you with your roommate.  You can even specify a particular roommate if you already know someone that is coming to UCR or if you meet someone during Bear Facts Orientations in July.

While some may be apprehensive of sharing a room, the majority of our students have positive roommate experiences.  We also have staff at many different levels accustomed to assisting students in this area.

The educational value of sharing a room is found in the consideration, responsibility, and amiability required to foster a successful roommate relationship.
