You're Moved In! Now What?
Welcome to UCR, from Housing Services and Residential Education! We’re excited for you to live with us this year. This website contains helpful information about living in your community that we highly encourage you to read through and familiarize yourself with.
Residential Education Staff: Who's Who
-
Resident Advisors
- RAs are trained student staff members who live in their hall or community with residents. They answer questions, talk through any issues, host programs and events, share UCR tips and experiences, and facilitate a strong community rooted in mutual respect and inclusivity for all members. Your RA is a student too!
- Community building and providing resources are primary parts of the RA position. You can expect your RA to reach out to you one on one!
- We highly encourage you to get to know your RA, they are there to help and make the residential experience positive for you!
- There are RAs on duty in your building/community after business hours every day.
- The RA on duty numbers can be found here. The numbers are for emergencies and a place to urgently report issues.
Call your RA on duty number when…
- You ever get locked out of your room or the building after business hours. You will start getting charged a fee if you get locked out more than three times.
- Maintenance emergencies, safety and wellbeing emergencies, and escalated conflicts.

Program Advisors
- Program Advisors for Community Experiences (PA-CE) put on large programs and events for all residents.
- Program Advisors for Academics (PA-A) and Program Advisors for Residential Experiences (PA-RE) work with the Living Learning Communities in the buildings.
- Program Advisors for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (PA-DEI) create initiatives and advocate for diversity and inclusion efforts for residents.
-
Assistant Directors, Resident Directors, and Assistant Resident Directors
Assistant Directors (ADs), Resident Directors (RDs), and Assistant Resident Directors (ARDs) supervise the student staff (RAs and PAs) in the building, help build community, attend some programs, and meet with students about housing policies and other concerns.
Preparing for the Quarter
Your move-in inspection will appear on your MyHousing Portal after you receive your keys. Check your UCR email when you arrive to your room and follow the instructions to complete your move-in inspection. Failure to complete your move-in inspection on Move-In Day will imply that your assigned space is acceptable "as-is."
If you find anything broken or damaged in your room or community, Request a Repair to have it addressed.
Your RA will provide a link to your agreement to complete with your roommates. You should sit down with your roommates once you receive the link to discuss sleeping hours, study hours, sharing the refrigerator, if you can use each other’s stuff, etc. Roommate issues are unfortunately very common and a lot of issues can be prevented by talking to each other sooner rather than later. Look out for the link from your RAs!
Even though your room may come fully-furnished, you still need to provide those items essential to college living. That includes bedding, towels, storage bags, etc.
The UCR Bookstore has put together the College Comfort selection for those in need of those supplies. Items are available for purchase onsite at the bookstore, a one-stop shop for those lacking off-campus transportation.
If you need College Comfort items, school supplies, or other essentials to make your space feel like home, you can purchase them in the UCR Bookstore.
If you need any assistance with roommate/hallmate issues.
- Talk to your roommates/hallmate(s)! Understanding how to communicate with each other is important. You are expected to make an intentional attempt to bring up concerns/issues with each other.
- If the issue is not resolved, please talk to your RA for assistance.
You need to set your own alarm. No one will wake you up and make sure you get to class.
You need to go to class. It costs about $125+ per class, and that’s a lot of money to throw away if you don’t go. Check your UCR Account for your schedule.
Get in the habit of checking your UCR email regularly for important communication from us, your classes, and the university.
