Move-In

Directions and Steps for Moving

Orient yourself amidst the hustle and bustle of moving. See what you have to do, step-by-step, for a successful move.

Your Winter 2023 Step-By-Step Move-In

  1. Due to COVID-19 health considerations and capacity limitations, students and their families will need to strictly adhere to assigned move-in dates and times.
  2. Arrivals/move-ins prior to or later than your assigned Move-In date cannot be accommodated.
  3. Up to two (2) guests may accompany students during Move-In Day.

Confirm Vaccination/Booster/Exemption Compliance

The University of California, including the UC Riverside campus, requires that all students, faculty and staff have an:

UP-TO-DATE COVID-19 VACCINE/BOOSTER

or

CAMPUS-APPROVED EXEMPTION

One of these must be on file in order to attend classes, work or reside in UC-affiliated facilities.  To be clear, no student will be issued keys or be permitted to move into campus housing if this requirement is not fulfilled in advance of arrival to UCR.

Take A Pre-Arrival COVID-19 Test

All students moving into new campus housing accommodations (both vaccinated and unvaccinated) must take a COVID-19 test prior to arriving to campus for Move-In.

What Type Of Test?

Your COVID-19 test may be either a self-administered, over-the-counter (OTC) home antigen test, or a professionally-administered lab test.

Recommended: An over-the-counter (OTC) home antigen, TMA, LAMP, OR NAAT test can be taken no more than two (2) days prior to your move-in day.  This is the quickest way to get an accurate test result.

Alternatively, you can take a PCR or RT-PCR test no more than 3 days prior to Move-In.  Be sure your lab results can be returned quickly enough.

How To Get A Test Kit

OTC home antigen kits are a covered benefit of many insurance plans (8 kits per person, per month).  They are available at most pharmacies, including Walgreens and CVS.

What To Do If You Test Positive

If you receive a positive pre-arrival COVID-19 test result or have cold/flu symptoms as Move-In day approaches, make the hard choice to stay home and follow appropriate QUARANTINE PROTOCOL

Do not come to campus for Move-In.  You can contact the UCR COVID Management Team at (844) 827-6827 (select voice prompt option 1) or UCR Student Health Services at (951) 827-3031 for further guidance regarding COVID-19 or your quarantine.

Do not worry, your space will be waiting for you when you are feeling better and test negative.  We appreciate you helping to keep our campus community safe and setting the right example for others.  Contact the Resident Services Office (RSO) for your assigned community to make arrangements for checking in once you no longer have COVID.
