Scotty's Thrive Guide
Scotty’s Thrive Guide is utilized by Residential Education, in collaboration with the Division of Student Affairs, to create an intentional, holistic learning environment for all students. By living on campus, students will be able to engage in a living and learning community that promotes Scholarly Engagement, Self-Authorship, positive Community Engagement, and Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. Through this our intention is to ensure our residents are able to thrive in a complex multicultural world.
Educational Priority
UCR Students will engage in inclusive educational experiences to thrive.
Community Engagement
Community engagement offers both on and off-campus opportunities that enhance students’ collegiate experience. It fosters leadership skills, effective communication, and personal growth while encouraging positive contributions to the community. Students embrace “Highlander Pride” as they connect deeply with their academic journey and the world around them.
Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI)
JEDI encourages reflection on how personal experiences shape our understanding of stereotypes, prejudice, discrimination, and oppression. It empowers students to cultivate compassionate empathy and move from understanding others' experiences to taking meaningful action for change. By providing frameworks for advocacy, allyship, and social change, JEDI fosters the creation of a more equitable and just society.
Scholarly Engagement
Scholarly engagement at UCR supports students as they invest energy in research and enrichment opportunities while developing the skills needed to overcome academic challenges. It emphasizes the importance of meeting well-being needs, including food, housing, mental health, and more to achieve scholarly goals. By fully utilizing campus resources, students can enhance their social, psychological, and physical well-being as they work toward degree completion.
Self-Authorship
Self-authorship includes being able to make decisions based on one’s personal values and beliefs, which becomes essential as students progress through their college career. It involves engaging in collaborative experiences that enhance both individual contributions and collective understanding. Ultimately, self-authorship empowers you to embrace diverse perspectives and pursue learning experiences that drive your personal and professional development.
