RCCD Move-In
Want to know where to have your packages delivered, where you can do laundry or even how your light switches work? Read our Move-In Brochure for helpful tips to help you make the most of your stay.
EARLY AUGUST
Submit Your R'Card Photo
- Submit your photo to the UCR Carding Office to receive a UCR ID Card (R'Card). You will need a R'Card to pick up your keys, use a dining plan and attend UCR events. If you already have an R'Card from a previous year, you can keep using it and do not need to submit a new photo.
- For photos submitted after August 12: Please pick up your R'Card from the Highlander Service Station prior to arriving at North District 2 to pick up your keys. You will not receive your new apartment keys without your R'Card — no exceptions.
Explore Optional Add-Ons
- Explore RCCD-exclusive Dining Plan options.
- Log in to your MyHousing Portal, and review the details on purchasing renters' insurance.
- Buy a Parking Permit if you intend to bring a vehicle. (Parking a car on campus requires a valid UCR parking permit.)
- There are many alternatives to driving. See the Transportation page to learn more about available cheap or free options.
Heads up: Your housing assignment is subject to change until Move-In Day. Your MyHousing Portal will always reflect the most current information.
THE WEEK OF MOVE IN
Pack Your Items
- Review the packing checklist and prohibited items list. Some things to keep in mind:
- Each resident can check out one rolling cart on Move-In Day to transport their items, but you may also bring your own wagon, dolly or moving cart.
- No moving vans, RVs or trailers are permitted on Move-In Day.
- Remember: Space is limited in on-campus housing! Many families end up taking items home.
The day before move-in
Do a Final Check
- Confirm your assignment in the MyHousing Portal.
- Have your R'Card ready.
- Pick out the perfect fit:
- There will be a decent amount of walking.
- Consider a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and an umbrella for shade, as it will likely be hot.
First
Do a Final Check & Prepare to Leave
- Confirm your housing assignment has not changed.
- Please leave pets at home; they will not be allowed into buildings due to health and safety concerns.
- If you do not have an R'Card, you will have to pick one up from the Highlander Service Station first. Please plan accordingly so that you arrive during the Highlander Service Station and Resident Services Office's operating hours.

Next
Proceed to the Resident Services Office
- The Resident Services Office is located in the lobby of C Building, facing Canyon Crest Drive.
- Show your R'Card to receive your keys.
THEN
Unload Your Items & Perform a Room Inspection
- Check out a blue moving cart and unload your items.
- Refer to the community map to find your room.
Take a look around: A move-in inspection will appear in the MyHousing Portal when you pick up your keys. Follow the instructions to complete your room inspection. Failure to complete it on the day you move in means your space is accepted as-is.
