RCCD Move-In
Welcome to North District 2!
Move-In Day is a huge undertaking: Each year, we welcome over 15,000 student residents and their family members during the course of two weekends. We want the move-in process to go as smoothly as possible for everyone involved.
Please see the community-specific move-in dates below and read through each stage of the process so you know exactly what to expect.
2026 Important Move-In Dates
Early August: Submit Your R'Card Photo (Drop-Dead Deadline: August 12)
Monday, August 10: Log in to MyHousing and Download Your Check-In Pass
Saturday, August 15: Move-In Day!
EARLY AUGUST
Submit Your R'Card Photo
- Submit your photo to the UCR Carding Office to receive a UCR ID Card (R'Card). You will need a R'Card to pick up your keys, use a dining plan and attend UCR events.
- For photos submitted before August 12: You will pick up your R'Card on Move-In Day.
- For photos submitted after August 12: You will have to wait in line at the Highlander Service Station on Move-In Day to take a photo and have your R'Card printed before you can receive your keys.
Explore Optional Add-Ons
- Explore RCCD-exclusive Dining Plan options.
- Log in to your MyHousing Portal, and review the details on purchasing renters' insurance.
- Buy a Parking Permit if you intend to bring a vehicle. (Parking a car on campus requires a valid UCR parking permit.)
- There are many alternatives to driving. See the Transportation page to learn more about available cheap or free options.
Heads up: Your housing assignment is subject to change until Move-In Day. Your MyHousing Portal will always reflect the most current information.
THE WEEK OF MOVE IN
Confirm Your Move-In Details
- On or after August 10, log in to your MyHousing Portal and download your Check-In Pass QR Code. Your housing assignment will be in the green shaded box on the "RCCD-UCR Housing Application Part 2" tab.
- Save your Check-In Pass to your phone or print it, but you must have it at Move-In Day.
- Your Check-In Pass QR Code will also have your assigned check-in time.
- Confirm your check-in time.
- RCCD Move-In is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, from 8:30 am - 11:30 am. You will be given a specific check-in time within those hours.
- You are required to move in on the assigned date and during your assigned time. Please arrive on time, but no more than 15 minutes earlier than your assigned check-in time.
- Need to check in late for religious or critical reasons? Please call or email us before Move-In Day. We cannot hold your room without prior notice.
Pack Your Items
- Review the packing checklist and prohibited items list. Some things to keep in mind:
- Each resident can check out one rolling cart on Move-In Day to transport their items, but you may also bring your own wagon, dolly or moving cart.
- You will only have 30 minutes in short-term parking before you have to move your vehicle to a farther parking lot. Shuttles will be available to transport you back to your community.
- Each resident may park one vehicle in short-term parking for up to 30 minutes.
- No moving vans, RVs or trailers are permitted on Move-In Day.
- Remember: Space is limited in on-campus housing! Many families end up taking items home.
The day before move-in
Do a Final Check
- Confirm your assignment in the MyHousing Portal.
- Have your R'Card and Check-In Pass ready (printed or on your phone).
- Pick out the perfect fit:
- There will be a decent amount of walking.
- Consider a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and an umbrella for shade, as it will likely be hot.
- There will be photo opportunities, so be sure to show your Highlander spirit!
- Get lots of sleep — tomorrow is the big day! 💃
First
Do a Final Check & Prepare to Leave
- Confirm your housing assignment has not changed.
- Please leave pets at home; they will not be allowed into buildings due to health and safety concerns.
- Please plan to arrive at your scheduled check-in time. If you arrive more than 15 minutes early, you will be asked to wait.
- If you did not submit your R'Card photo by August 12, you will have to pick up your R'Card from the Highlander Service Station first. Please plan accordingly so that you still arrive at your community at your scheduled check-in time.

Next
Proceed To Your Community Parking Lot
- Pick up your R'Card:
- If you submitted your R'Card photo before August 12, proceed directly to UCR Lot 18 (826 W Blaine St) and walk to the nearby check-in tables.
- If you submitted your photo after August 12 or have not submitted a photo, proceed to the Highlander Service Station first. You are required to have an R'Card to pick up your keys and move in.
- Highlander Service Station Move-In Day hours: 8:00 AM-12:00 PM.
- After picking up your R'Card, proceed to Lot 18 for check-in. Please still try to arrive at Lot 18 at your scheduled check-in time.
- Show your Check-In Pass and R'Card to receive your keys.
THEN
Unload Your Items & Perform a Room Inspection
- Check out a blue moving cart and unload your items.
- Follow the signs to find your room or refer to the community map.
- You will only have 30 minutes to unload your vehicle before you must move it to long-term parking. Follow these routes for long-term parking. Shuttles will be available to transport you back to your community.
Lot 18 to Long-Term Parking
Take a look around: A move-in inspection will appear in the MyHousing Portal when you pick up your keys. Follow the instructions to complete your room inspection. Failure to complete it on the day you move in means your space is accepted as-is.
