Computer Labs & Printing
Need to type up a paper, print out an assignment or find a quiet spot to focus? Residential Technology operates 24/7 computer labs across UCR's residential communities. Each lab is equipped with computers, printers and everything you need to get your work done, right in your own space.
How To Print

Printing from a Personal Computer/Laptop
- Log in to Papercut and install the printer on your device.
- Send your file to your desired printer location.
- Once at the printer, tap your R'Card.
- Select Print Release and then choose your job.
- Tap the arrow to the right of your job's name to modify print settings, such as the number of copies.
- Tap Print.
Printing from a Chromebook
- Log in to Papercut.
- Select Web Print.
- Click Submit a Job.
- Select Upload Documents.
- Upload the file(s) you want to print.
- Click Upload & Complete.
- Once at the printer, tap your R'Card.
- Select Print Release and then choose your job.
- Tap the arrow to the right of your job's name to modify print settings, such as the number of copies.
- Tap Print.
Note: Computer lab workstations already have printers installed. If you are printing from a computer lab device, skip Step 1. If you cannot log in to PaperCut, try changing your NetID password.

Printing from a Phone
- Log in to Papercut, and install the printer on your device.
- Send your file to your desired printer location.
- Android: Tap the down arrow (at the top of the print preview) to modify print settings.
- iOS: On the Printer Options page, tap Options to modify print settings.
- Once at the printer, tap your R'Card.
- Select Print Release and then choose your job.
- Tap the arrow to the right of your job's name to modify print settings, such as the number of copies.
- Tap Print.
If you cannot log in to PaperCut, try changing your NetID password.

Scanning from a Printer
- Place your document(s) on the glass bed or in the document feeder tray.
- Tap your R'Card on the printer to log in.
- Choose Scan.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to select your scan destination (e.g., email, Google Drive, etc.) and file type (image or document).
- Tap Change Settings for additional options, such as file format.
- Tap Scan.
Note: Google Drive will send you an authorization email the first time you try to scan documents in. You must follow the prompts in the email to complete your scan.

How do I log into Papercut?
- Visit the Papercut website.
- Log in using your UCR NetID and password.
- Authenticate your session.

What is a print quota?
A print quota is a set of funds that residents can use to pay for their printing needs. Each resident who has a computer lab in their community (Aberdeen-Inverness, Dundee, Glen Mor, Lothian, Pentland Hills and The Plaza) is given a $12 print quota each year. This amounts to 400 pages of single-sided printing or 300 pages of double-sided printing.
Residents can purchase additional print quota in $1 increments by emailing Residential Technology. Any unused print quota will be forfeited at the end of the academic year.

(1) Single-Sided Page = 3 cents

Why doesn't my print job appear in the queue?
Check your computer to ensure you selected the correct printer, and allow up to two minutes for your job to appear in the machine's queue. If you are still having issues, contact Residential Technology at (951) 827-6546 or restech@ucr.edu.

Computer labs are open 24/7 to residents, except during holiday breaks, when certain labs may be closed.

Can I use my own device in the computer lab?
Yes! We have study carousels set up in our computer labs so that students who prefer to work off their own device can do so. Carousels operate on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be reserved.
